About
About This Site
Kowloon by Night is home to author, literary agency intern, occasional artist, and cheerful misanthrope Adrien-Luc Sanders. This site pretends to be a professional blog with some kind of substance related to writing, editing, and querying, but that all went out the window ages ago. Wombats, bacon, and my rapidly greying hair were somehow involved.
About Adrien
Boy with an overly complicated name. Not so much of a boy at 32. Coffee addict. Cat cuddler. Myopic cynic. Multi-ethnic melange. Queerer than a two-dollar bill. Firefly chaser. Lover of sunflower seeds. Book devotee. Music junkie. Encyclopedia reader. Game geek. Ridiculously socially awkward. Sleeps better during thunder storms. Looks much too femme for his own good. Doesn't do it on purpose. Bites his nails. Doesn't drink nearly enough. Occasionally transforms from mild-mannered reporter into Lewis Black. Collects out-of-print books. Has a crush on Craig Ferguson. Crochets like a little old granny. Makes writing playlists. Listens to squeaky Korean girlpop. Sings along off-key. Dances like a white boy who thinks nobody's watching. Takes things apart. Reassembles with a 67% success rate. Thinks IHOP always tastes better after midnight. Loves old movies. Reads romance novels with zero shame. Married to an ordinary Joe who isn't so ordinary at all. Lok'tar frickin' ogar.
Work
Oh. You want to know about all that professional stuff? Right now I'm:
- Lit agent intern for Bree Ogden at D4EO Literary Agency;
- A business writer for a career consulting company that will have my cojones for lunch if I mention anything else outside my NDA.
Quick Q&A
There are a few questions I get rather often, so I hope this helps!
Q: I heard that you resigned from Entangled. Is this true?
A: Yes. After this year's earlier hospital scare, the workload of keeping up with Entangled plus my 16-hour-a-day day job has been causing a serious and potentially dangerous downward spiral in my physical and mental health, as well as sorely affecting my marriage and other personal relationships. My doctor said something had to give, and unfortunately that something was Entangled. I wish all my authors and the Entangled staff the best. Kerri-Leigh Grady has taken over as Editorial Director, and any inquiries should be directed to her.
Q: But you haven't been tweeting!
A: I know. My life's been imploding, and I'm kind of a private person (hard to believe, I know). Twitter's a very public place. I haven't really had anything to say that's appropriate for public.
Q: Can I pay you to edit my book?
A: No; I'm not taking on private editing clients anymore, though that may change in the future.
Q: Does your cat really weigh 35 pounds?
A: And growing. And that's on a diet. He's like Godzilla!cat. ...and he's wholly terrified of the little 9 pound Pixie!cat.
...I'm sure there are other questions I'm forgetting right now, but I'll update this as they come back to me.
